Grand-opening tours set for new research building

8/7/2007

Sun Health Research Institute

Public tours of the institute, including the new addition, are scheduled from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 5. Reservations can be made by calling the Sun HealthLine® at (623) 876-5432.

The facility, which allows the institute to expand its scope of study to include fields such as cancer, cardiology and orthopedics, has been funded and equipped through $5 million in community gifts being generated by Sun Health Foundation's capital campaign titled "Superior Healthcare - the Treasure within Sun Health." The continuing campaign has passed the midpoint of its $25-million goal that includes $20 million to support the expansions of Sun Health Boswell and Del E. Webb hospitals.

The Cleo Roberts Center for Clinical Research will move to the first floor of the new building, allowing it to almost triple its size and significantly expand the availability of clinical trials to test promising new drugs, treatments and vaccines. The second floor will be shelled in for future expansion as additional contributed funds become available. Located on the third floor will be the enlarged tissue repository for the institute's internationally renowned brain- and body-donation program that has developed into one of the world?s leading sources of brain tissue for the study of Alzheimer?s and Parkinson?s diseases.
